| I found this map from the dark dungeons of interwebs. It was fun finding. Some Europian and North African cities are placed to North American map based on to their latitude. I circled my home to the map. If my hometown was removed to the North America at the same latitude, I would be living there. | |

| I was looking at a similar map just Sunday! Where I live is about the same latitude as Kiev.
Ah, the good old Arctic Circle. Incredibly long days in the summer, incredibly long nights in the winter.
I had always thought many of the places on that map were more south of where they actually are. _________________ Life's hard. It's even harder when you're stupid. John Wayne

We are now heading the darkest time of the year. December and January are dark, but after these months the light is coming back. - onebigfish wrote:

The city I circled is not my actual hometown. My home is just a little bit more south, but it is much smaller city than the Rovaniemi (the one I circled) so it is not on this map. But the difference is so tiny that it is almost the same.

| Your climate is much more moderated than the area you circled.
I was surprised that the Middle Eastern countries are that far north. _________________ Life's hard. It's even harder when you're stupid. John Wayne

In nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway) the gulf-stream warms up the climate. It starts from the gulf of Mexico and brings warm to the north. Without it especially our winters would be much colder than they are now. Actually there is a theory that if global warming melts down the great ice areas in north the salt-level of the sea will drop and the gulf-stream could change it's course and that would actually bring the temperatures down here in my area.

| This is how we look at this time of the year. Photo taken by my phone at 6.30 pm. Last two days it has been snowing and the temperature has been -7 - 9 degrees in celsius. Before the shot I did my snowwork. We have winter. It is dark when I start the work, there is light couple hours and then it is dark when I stop working. | |
