I was glad that the Brewers pulled it out. Yellich continues to impress. Jeffress is a former castoff of the Jays who just couldn't figure it out back then. He had the stuff, but couldn't hit the side of a barn with it. Figures he would put it all together after leaving.

Watching Cleveland vs Houston. What a pitching matchup, Verlander vs Kluber.

Last inning Kluber hit two batters; he only hit 3 ALL SEASON!

I didn't know the game was on yet. That IS quite a pitching battle.

All of a sudden the Astros blasted Kluber. He's done after 4 2/3 innings

Now watching the Rockies/Brewers.

Seunghwan Oh is now pitching for the Rockies who trail 1-0 in the 8th and he's trying like hell to put the game out of reach. Bases loaded for the Brewers, no outs.

I was away all weekend so I didn't see any baseball. The first story I read when I get back is about Angel Hernandez. I'm not sure if you'll see the Twitter posts in this article, but some of them are hilarious.

You've got to wonder what kind of internal umpire evaluations go on. How in the heck do some of these guys still have jobs?

The Arizona Fall League starts today. It looks like we both get to cheer for the Surprise Saguaros. The Jays are sending 7 prospects, including Guerrero, and the Cards are sending 8.

How appropriate is this?

Who do we have behind the plate in tonight's potentially deciding game between two teams we both hate, Boston and New York? Our buddy Angel Hernandez. May they all mutually destroy each other.

I don't see how Hernandez even gets rewarded to do a playoff series. When your average of correct calls is as low as his, you should be fired.

I see Conner Greene is in the AFL. I checked his stats for the season. I see that he still can't throw strikes.

So my hopes for a Houston/Milwaukee series are still alive. The Houston/Boston ALCS should be a good one.

Those are my hopes as well, with Milwaukee taking it.

I think that what's interesting about a Houston/Milwaukee series is that it would be between two teams who switched leagues, Houston from NL to AL and Milwaukee from AL to NL.

I'm sure that's probably happened in a WS before but I bet not between two teams who are still in the same cities they were when they switched leagues.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/reports-kris-bryant-turned-200m-deal-cubs-214213910.html

Wow, seriously?

Look up his stats from the last several years.  2016 was an undeniably great year from him, but the rest?  OK, nice player and you'd like those numbers from pretty much anyone, but worthy of turning down a $200M contract?  Not in my book. To me this looks like yet another Scott Boras client being ill-advised by his agent.

I never thought of that. That is an interesting footnote though.

Speaking of Connor Greene (weren't we?), he got a chance to pitch last night. This summary of his night is about all you need to know.

Sadly Connor Greene exploded in a different way. Think of a supernova going off. With two outs already, Greene came into the 8th and promptly gave up a RBI single, followed by a walk with a wild pitch leading to a run scored. Then another walk to load the bases. Then a third walk (runner comes in and bases still loaded) and then a fourth walk (with another run walked in) and the bases loaded. Then he mercifully got the third out with a popup. This is his fugly final line: 0.1IP, 1H 2R 2ER 4BB 0Ks ERA 54.00.

So far Guerrero is 6 for 9 with 4 doubles and a walk.

Cardinals announced they've signed a 1 year contract with Adam Wainwright. I thought he was done.

I saw that yesterday evening. I wonder what their plan is with him.

This is scary. Guerrero hit a 103.2 mph line drive of the pitcher's head. Can you see the twitter videos halfway down the page?

Nah, I can't see the videos. But I keep saying that I'm surprised we don't see incidents like that more often these days as pitchers throw harder and harder and batters get bigger and bigger.

Apparently there are a lot of incentives in the contract so he's probably "only" getting a couple million or so. He's pitched out of the pen before (remember 2006?) so he could either start or relieve. I think the main reason they're keeping him around is to mentor the ton of young pitchers they have; he's supposedly a very good teacher.

I wonder why you don't see Twitter videos. A lot of the video links in articles I find are from Twitter.

That's what I was thinking is the role of a mentor. I could see him pitching more of the bullpen, providing long relief when needed, and spot starting.

Conner Greene was at it again in the AFL. In 2/3 of an inning:

Single
Walk
Single
Walk
Sac Fly
3 Run Homer
Single
Wild Pitch
Flyout
Wild Pitch
RBI Single

His ERA is now 72.00. Can't remember who we got from the Cards for this guy, but even if it was a roll of toilet paper, it was a good deal.

Grichuk

We got Dominic Leone and this guy. Eh, he's young and the AZ League is where you work on stuff so who knows, maybe he's trying to develop a cutter or something. And Leone looked pretty good when he was healthy (which wasn't often). We were tired of Grichuk's inconsistency and have no room in the outfield for him anyway. Hell we STILL have too many outfielders.

Since the Dodger are clobbering the Brewers, I'm watching the TBS pregame show for the Boston/Houston game.

Pedro Martinez just went off on Angel Hernandez.  It was funny as hell.  He said something like "Can we please keep Angel Hernandez away from the post-season?  Jesus Christ!!!!..." and they quickly cut to a commercial.
