MLB Central just had an interesting story on the friendship between Danny Jansen and Adam Jones.  Fourteen years ago, Jansen's family was the "host family" when Jones was in the Seattle minor league system.  There's a picture of young Adam Jones with his arm around the shoulder of little Danny Jansen.  Last night they played against each other on the same field.

They showed part of that on the broadcast last night. It's a neat story. I wish I would've been able to see the whole story on MLB Central. During the first game of the series, they were razzing each other a little bit as Jansen flew out to Jones.

The Jays hammered the Orioles again last night, 8-2. The managed to hit 4 home runs, including 3 in one inning. Diaz got his 16th. They've been playing him at short and third lately. They seem to be stressing versatility, with Martin (C, 3B, SS, 2B), Diaz (SS, 3B), Gurriel (2B, SS), and Solarte (2B, 3B, SS) playing multiple infield positions.

Did you see that Carlos Martinez got drilled by a 110mph line drive to the chest?  First game after his third trip to the DL this year and that happens.  Fortunately x rays were negative.

The Jays and Orioles are playing in early game today. The Jays have rookie Thomas Pannone making his first major league start. Hopefully things will go as well for him as they do for the Cards' rookies.

After 4 innings, the Jays and Orioles are tied 0-0. Neither pitcher has allowed a hit, so it's been pretty slow so far.

EDIT: It's in the 6th inning now and still tied 0-0. The Jays got a hit last inning, but it didn't account for anything. The Orioles still don't have a hit. Grichuk just made a Pillar-esque catch to take away a hit.

EDIT 2: The kid did a great job. He gave up a leadoff hit in the 7th. The next batter hit a line drive to left. In the latest episode of "Adventures With Tesocar", Teoscar Hernandez looked completely lost and had a go off his glove for a two base error. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 0 outs, Pannone worked out of it without giving up a run. Being over 100 pitches and not having started in a while.

I had to go to a meeting and missed the end of the game. It ended up 6-0. The Jays have swept the Orioles 3 times at home this season to go 10-0 at Rogers Centre. I wish we could play them more and the Yankees and Red Sox less!

Everybody would like to play the Orioles; they're terrible.

But the Jays swept them which a bunch of kids which sort of levels the playing field a bit.

The Jays have 6 more games against them, for a total of 18 on the season.

Tonight the Cards try to sweep the Dodgers which would be a feat IMO.  We're starting rookie Jack Flaherty and LA is also starting a rookie pitcher.  I'm just amazed how well the Cardinals have been playing under "interim" manager Mike Schildt.  They were at .500 under Matheny and they're 13 games over under Schildt.  Part of it is the bullpen cleansing but there has to be more to it than that.

I think it's the fact that STL is now SO young and all of these guys have played under Schildt when they were in the minors so the "chemisty" is just there.

On the Cardinals website I just read that they have place Ozuna on the 10 day DL and officially activated Matt Adams for tonight's game and also recalled Jairo Munoz (who plays freakin' everywhere).  I don't think losing Ozune for a few game will mean much to the team because even though he's been hitting OK at around .280 and has 68 RBI, he really hasn't provided the "oomph" the team hoped he would so I think we'll be fine without him for a few games.

I'd say bench Ozuna for the year.  I don't think he's been healthy all season; hell, he started the year with a sleeve on his arm.  And now shoulder inflammation.  Screw it; sit him down and find out what the hell is wrong with him.

So the fire sale in DC has begun.  Daniel Murphy to the Cubs and Matt Adams comes back to the Cardinals.  If this is going to be a lefty/righty platoon with Adams and Jose Martinez at first I'm happy with it.  Between them those two guys have 33 homeruns this year.

I saw that this morning. No one predicted that the Nationals would end up in this situation, needing to trade-off and looking at missing the playoffs. When I saw that Adams got traded to the Cards, the name sounded familiar. Sure enough, he had been there before. It's a good deal for them.

I envy the Cards' pitching. Their scouts sure know how to scout and draft young pitchers. I wish the Jays could do that. What we need the most is pitching.

I saw that the Cards one last night and continued their roll. I loved that play Wong made!

I'm watching the replay of last night's game since the damn game tonight doesn't start for another hour and I didn't see the play live last night (obviously).

That WAS some play by Wong.  He actually should probably win the gold glove for 2nd base in the NL but everyone knows the GG isn't based solely on defensive stats.  Which I think is sad.

Cardinals completed the sweep of the Dodgers 3-1 last night. I can't remember the last time STL went to LA and swept them.

I saw that they pulled it out last night with a couple of home runs late in the game.

Regarding Ozuna, something I read yesterday said that was one of the more disappointing/regrettable trades.

Aaron Sanchez is supposed to be back soon. He's been on the 60-day DL since June. Why? Because he mangled his finger in a suitcase.

This has been added to the list of strange injuries Jays' players have had.

No idea.

How did you like the spider one on the list of bizarre injuries?

That spider one sounds like BS. Unless he's a known sleepwalker.

From Wikipedia:

During his early career, Hill was forced to go on the disabled list after suffering injuries during a sleepwalking incident. Hill, an arachnophobe, had a nightmare about being attacked by spiders and in the process went sleepwalking to try to get away. When he woke up from the incident, he had cuts all over his hands and feet due to walking across shards of broken glass from a table he knocked over and also fell down a flight of stairs. His teammates began calling him "Spiderman" afterwards.[9]

Today I watched Matt Holliday make his first start for the Colorado Rockies since 2006.  They signed him to a AAA contract a couple weeks ago and he'd been tearing it up.

Good on him for not giving up and not letting his pride get in the way.  And guess who the Cardinals play tomorrow?  Yep, in Colorado.  Too bad the Rockies don't come here anymore this year; I guarantee Holliday would get a standing O.  He's really a good dude on and off the field.  I wish him nothing but the best with the Rockies (except when they play us of course)

That's great. He obviously still loves playing the game.

That also reminds me of something. A couple weeks ago, my son and I went to watch our local independent team play. They were playing a team called the Cleburne Railroaders. Rafael Palmiero place for them. He plays DH and hits right after his son.

This is interesting. Here's a list of former American Association players who are currently in the majors. There are some good ones!

hahahaha!

I'm watching the Cubs vs the Reds.  New Cub Daniel Murphy just hit a homer in the bottom of the 8th to put Chicago up 2-1.  They brought in Crooked Hat Strop to close it out and the first pitch he threw resulted in a homer for Eugenio Suarez.  lol!
