No. I was just kidding. Is there some kind of team superstition now?

Early in the season when Wainwright first went on the DL the team was on the road and Wainwright was back in STL getting looked at. He went over to Carpenter's house and planted a huge vegetable garden. Once everything started coming up, Carpenter started making his own salsa from the garden. And that's when he went 6 games in a row with a homerun. Ever since then he takes enough homemade salsa for the whole team when the go on the road. It's even become the team "thing" when anyone does something good; they make a "spoon feeding" motion to their mouths. They even have T shirts that say "It's gotta be the salsa!"

Baseball players can sure be a superstitious bunch.

It's really funny to see everybody doing that move whenever they drive in a run or get an extra base hit.

We won again last night BTW. Eight in a row.

Apparently they didn't eat enough salsa today.

It's currently 5-1 Nats in the 6th and the Cards have committed 3 errors already leading to 3 unearned runs.  That's pathetic.

EDIT:  OK, now it's the 7th and it's 5-4.  Keep eating that salsa boys!

EDIT2: Holy crap! Sea Serpent threw a 1-2-3 8th! I can't remember the last time this clown went 3 up 3 down.

I see they didn't quite pull it off last night.

Not enough salsa.

Well, the Jays lost to the Royals last night. They played a sloppy, uninteresting game. One of the lone bright spots was Danny Jansen, the young catcher they called up from Triple-A. I say call up more of the kids and make it more interesting the last month and a half of the season.

Might as well call up the kids and see what you've got.

Interesting, Carlos Martinez is coming off the DL and the Cardinals are going to try him as the closer.  Might as well; the kids in the rotation have been fine so why mess with them?  And one of the knocks on Martinez is he lacks concentration over the course of a game and has a blowup inning.  So let him come in and focus for 1 inning and just cut it loose without worrying about pacing himself.  I like the idea.

The Cardinals are much better at growing starters than closers anyway so give it a shot.

Back to winning; beat the Brewers 5-2 Friday night.  Rookie Jack Flaherty got his 7th win going 6 innings allowing no runs on 3 hits and fanning 7

Cards beat the Brewers again 7-2 tonight as Mikolas got his 13th win.  The Cardinals now have the 2nd wild card spot in the NL and are only 1/2 behind the Phillies for the first NL wild card spot.

It's amazing; I'd written this season off but now STL actually has a shot at the post-season.

I'm convinced there are two big reasons:

1) we got rid of Mike Matheny who insisted on playing the veterans at all positions even if they were having bad years which dovetails into reason 2
2) We got rid of a lot of the gasoline cans in the bullpen that Matheny insisted on using all the time because they'd had past success.  Crap like Holland, Tuivalala, and others.  Those clowns are all gone so now new manager Mike Schildt HAS to use kids like Dakota Hudson and Mike Mayers and those guys are succeeding.

I'm not kidding myself; STL is STILL not a real post-season team but it is nice to see them moving in the right direction.

Cards lost 2-1 today.  So they've still won 7 series in a row and 10 out of their last 12 games and the only two games they've lost were 5-4 to the Cubs and 2-1 to the Brewers.  They are playing sooooo much better than they did when Matheny was managing the team.

Nice! Sometimes there are some pretty good shirts on that site. It's great that the proceeds go to charity.

It really does seem like the turnaround started once Matheny was gone. He obviously wasn't the right person for the job anymore.

Signing Holland sure was a total disaster. Talk about a dumpster fire!

I was away at the lake building a gazebo on the weekend. That means I didn't have to watch the Jays get slaughtered by the Evil Empire all weekend long. Man, they are terrible lately. Fortunately, the cure starts today as the Orioles come to town. The Jays are 9-1 against them this year.

I forgot to mention that Stroman is the latest Jay to hit the DL. He's got a nasty blister.

Seems like every team has injuries piling up.  Well it IS that time of year.

Actually the Cardinals are finally starting to get healthy.  Wacha is on rehab assignment as is Wainwright.  The word now is that they plan on using BOTH Martinez AND Wainwright out of the bullpen and keep starting the kids.  Right now we have 3 rookies starting in the rotation.  AND they've moved Luke Weaver out of the rotation and to the pen.  So that means 3/5 of the starting rotation at the beginning of the season will be pitching out of the bullpen.  And a 4th starter from then is on rehab.  The only guy still in the rotation who was there at the start of the season is Mikolas.

When you get guys back from injuries, it's like a trade to bring in reinforcements.

It was 10 years ago today that the Jays acquired Bautista.

The Jays beat the Orioles last night, 5-3. They are now 10-1 on them for the season.

On Sunday in the beat down against the Yankees, Kevin Pillar decided to tried to steal 3rd with two outs and being down a few runs. He was out easily, and when he got to the dugout Gibbons gave him a real earful.

In last night's game, Pillar hit a double in the 1st and got the "thumbs up" from Gibbons.

I saw that story on MLB Central today.  I thought it was cool that Gibbons was Pillar's biggest fan in the dugout

Cards beat the Dodgers out in LA 5-3 last night.  Kenley Jensen came of the DL from his heart issues and promptly gave up back to back solo homers to Gyorko and Carpenter in the 9th.  I sort of feel bad for the guy.

So the fire sale in DC has begun.  Daniel Murphy to the Cubs and Matt Adams comes back to the Cardinals.  If this is going to be a lefty/righty platoon with Adams and Jose Martinez at first I'm happy with it.  Between them those two guys have 33 homeruns this year.

Tonight the Cardinals are starting yet ANOTHER rookie in Daniel Poncedeleon.  He's the pitcher who was hit in the head in a minor league game 15 months ago and suffered injury to his brain.  He made one ML start back in late July and went into the 7th with a no-hitter.   This is his first start since then; he's been pitching out of the pen as a long man but he and Luke Weaver have swapped positions.

I can't believe the Cardinal starting rotation right now is Jack Flaherty (rookie), Austin Gomber (rookie), Daniel Poncedeleon (rookie), Miles Mikolas (in Japan for the past 3 years) and TBD.  And yet we're winning.  And the bullpen soon will be Jordan Hicks (the rook with the 105mph fastball), veteran Bud Norris, Carlos Martinez and Adam Wainwright.  Who could have seen all that?

Management really needs to seriously consider taking the "interim" tag off of manager Mike Schildt.  For one thing, he knows all these young guys because he's managed in the minors for years.

MLB Central just had an interesting story on the friendship between Danny Jansen and Adam Jones. Fourteen years ago, Jansen's family was the "host family" when Jones was in the Seattle minor league system. There's a picture of young Adam Jones with his arm around the shoulder of little Danny Jansen. Last night they played against each other on the same field.

Cards beat the Dodgers again last night 5-2. That makes 8 consecutive series wins. Amazingly, the Cardinals now own the first NL wild card.

I saw that this morning. No one predicted that the Nationals would end up in this situation, needing to trade-off and looking at missing the playoffs. When I saw that Adams got traded to the Cards, the name sounded familiar. Sure enough, he had been there before. It's a good deal for them.

I envy the Cards' pitching. Their scouts sure know how to scout and draft young pitchers. I wish the Jays could do that. What we need the most is pitching.

I saw that the Cards one last night and continued their roll. I loved that play Wong made!
