Watching the Braves @ Cubs. Bautista just hit a 3 run shot to put Atlanta up 6-4

Ol' Crooked Hat himself.

Braves hung on for a 6-5 win. (YAY!!!!)

Cards are off today - AGAIN!!!!  I bet when we get to July and August the Cardinals will play something like 25 days in a row.

The Braves are really surprising this year. They do have some really good, young talent though.

The schedule does seem weird this year.

The Jays are in New York to play the Mets. I don't like interleague, especially in National League parks, but at least that means Kendrys Morales won't be playing; I'm sure any of our pitchers could stand at the plate and swing at balls all over the place.

MLB extended Osuna's administrative leave for another week.

And in other news, I just read that Robinson Cano is going to be suspended for 80 games for violating the drug policy.

Yeah I'm watching the coverage of the suspension of MLB Network

Cano was suspended for a diuretic. According to the CBA, for this particular drug it's up to the Independent Program Administrator (IPA) whether or not to suspend the player. If the IPA suspect the player was taking the diuretic in an attempt to mask that they're taking a PED then the IPA can suspend the player. Apparently Cano is saying he was taking this substance for a blood pressure condition but this particular drug is way down the list of diuretics used to treat blood pressure. It's more often used to treat congestive heart failure.

Definitely sounds to me like he was using it as a masking agent.

Cano has been a great player for many years. I'd be surprised if he was "using" during his whole career. If he just started now, then why? He's got a history of being great, why would he feel the need to? Perhaps he thought his performance was slipping. Or perhaps, he has been using all along and finally got caught. The other option is that he is actually telling the truth.

He could be telling the truth but if that's the case then why did he give up fighting the ban just hours before the first hearing?  For me, too many things don't add up.

1) He was prescribed a diuretic to treat high blood pressure when this particular diuretic is rarely used for that purpose
2) He was prescribed this drug in the Dominican Republic
3) If he didn't do anything wrong, why give up the fight?  Especially since he was going to be out a long time anyway with his broken hand
4) The IPA had all the facts and decided to ban him.  That tells me the IPA knows something we don't.

It's a shame it's come to this because as you say, Cano may be telling the truth.  But if I was going to lose $14M (which is what MLBN said Seattle will save now) and I knew I'd done nothing wrong I'd fight as long as possible.

On a brighter note, I didn't realize until one of the MLBN shows brought it up but 11 of the 15 NL teams are at 500 or better.  And two of the ones that aren't are in the NL West.  8 out of the 10 teams in the East and Central are over .500.

That tells me the NL teams aren't just beating up on the weaker teams like the Reds and Marlins.

Then you have the AL where in the Central the Indians lead with a .500 record.

BTW, you put that post about Roy Halliday in the "Cranking" thread.  I'd move it but I don't know how anymore; I don't see the same method I used to use to move stuff.

It's official, Wainwright on the DL again.  Just hang it up already.

I can't for the life of me figure it out either. I just deleted it.

I'm really surprised that the Indians only have a .500 record. Especially considering they are in a punching bag division.

With the loss last night, the Jays are now at .500. Unfortunately, that just doesn't cut it in the AL East.

The Jays have an early afternoon game against the Mets this afternoon.

For some reason, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats started at 10:30 this morning, so I'm listening to that one. It's the top of 7 and the Fisher Cats are up 7-0. Guerrero is already 4 for 4. His stat line is just obscene:

Games: 34
AB: 134
AVG: .418
OBP: .460
SLG: .672
HR: 7
RBI: 40

Holy crap! If I were him I'd be getting frustrated. It's like batting against high school pitchers.

Cardinals are leading the Twins 4-2 in the 6th. They got 3 runs off Lance Lynn who only lasted 2.1 innings. Cardinals just did their usual tactic of not scoring with a runner on third and less than two outs. Worse, in this case it was first and third with NO outs and they didn't score. Ever notice how doing that bites a team in the ass around 90% of the time?

It's not like the East Coast League is that hitters league like the Pacific Coast League either. They at least need to bring them up to AAA; it's not even a challenge for him in AA.

I certainly do; it happens to the Jays a LOT lately!

The Jays are up 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th. After getting hammered 12-2 yesterday, it's nice to score a few runs. For the first time in a long time, the Jays are actually getting a great start. It surprising considering it's been alternating between rain and drizzle all game. J.A. Happ has a walk, a single, and 2 runs scored as well.

EDIT: Happ now has 2 singles.

It's nice to have a laugher once in a while. Hardly ever happens for STL. In fact we lead the majors in extra inning games so far this season; something like 11 or 12 already.

I've noticed that almost every time I check the Cards' final score, it's been a close game.

J.A. Happ has gone 7 shutout innings, giving up only 2 hits, struck out 10, and walked nobody.

He also has the same number of multi-hit games this year as our "DH", Kendrys Morales. I told you any of our pitchers could probably do better than Morales.
