Should I follow the vow I made to my father a few minits before he died about following God. Or should I follow an older religion that is not Christian but I believe in my heart is correct? This is a tough one and my best response to the question would be to follow my vow to a dying man.

This don't really need to go into deep discussion but I was just curious about what my cyber family here thinks on the matter. confused

Tough one, if it were me Id want to honor my promise to my father, especially if he is not with you anymore but at the same time you gotta go with what you think is right. I will say this though since Ive known ya Jim you've always have been flipped flopped between Following Jesus and embracing another belief, I'm not saying this to put you down or be critical, etc Im just merely pointing an observation to you, either way it takes faith to believe IMO on anything. I would try to get to the root of what it is you have or are unsure about with following Jesus and this other belief system. I would then search for something that you believe and make sure you truly do believe and then go with it. I hope this makes sense

I know that I believe following God to be the true way, but here are my thoughts.

The Bible says that God knows our hearts and motivations. The Bible also says that we cannot follow two Gods. If you are following one with what you "say" (God), but the other with your "heart", are you really then following the one you say?

My best suggestion would be to honor your father by digging deeper into the Bible to see if you can find it to be true in your heart.

I know this was an old thread ,but I want to tell you what happened to make me make the choice I did. One of my teachers of Odinism told me that Odin would be more upset that I broke a vow than my choosing the Christian God to follow. He said Odin probably dont care if I rely on him or not. It is very different from Christianity. I followed my wise teacher and returned to Jesus. Moved, Started church where my pastor is an old buddy from the second grade LOL. Funnier yet , my girlfriend is a girl I sort of had a crush on since the first grade. All this made possible by moving to the town I was born in . Question 223284 Question 866550 Question 66512

My path is far from comfortable. In fact it is constantly challenging me to grow and bend my mind to the mind of Christ.... It does get easier as one becomes more obedient to the Holy Spirit tho.

Kind of sad, more disappointed. I was doing an online devotional from the 365 day devotional book by Oswald Chambers called My Utmost For His Highest. Well, He conveniently had to go to the store. Odd that he has a few vices that he don't wish to give up and the scripture is in Mark 10:28 about giving up everything if needed to follow Jesus. Sigh, He is such a good friend I really want to see him grow.
