Thumbs up

watching Texas destroy Boston; it's 10-3 in the 5th. The Rangers broke out to a 4-0 lead but it was 4-3 after 4 innings. Texas blew the game open in the fifth though and I love it.

Wow. The Astros are a REALLY good team too.

I can't stand either of those teams; it's like watching stomach flu vs. a bad case of diarrhea.

The Jays managed to split the doubleheader, winning 13-11 in 11 innings, and then losing 13-4. the Jays REALLY didn't need Garcia to implode in the 4th inning of the first game because it really taxed bullpen. Even then, the bullpen didn't pitch great in either game. Neither did Biagini starting the second game, for that matter.

Solarte was the hero of the day, going 8 for 10 with a walk and 6 RBIs. He hit a grand slam in the 11th inning of the first game, and a solo shot in the second game.

Donaldson also had two home runs in his first games back from the DL.

MLB Network shows keep speculating about Donaldson coming to the Cardinals some time during the season if the Jays fall out of it. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I've been hearing that since last year that if the Jays are out of it before the deadline, they should trade Donaldson. It would suck if he left, but I'm not sure I see him re-signing. He might just want to long of a term.

In the third inning of the first game Solarte had one of the worst headfirst slides have ever seen. It's surprising he went on and had such a good day after this.

Now MLB Central is talking about Albert Pujols being 1 hit away from 3000. In 18 seasons Pujols has never struck out 100 times or more. The only other player with 3000 hits and 500 HR that can say that is Hank Aaron.

I hope Bautista does well.

Pujols is a shell of his former self, but that still doesn't take away from his career achievements.

Wow.  The Mets are DFA-ing Matt Harvey. First he rebelled against being relegated to the bullpen then he refused a minor league assignment so they're going to DFA him.

He's got too many issues. If he was performing, he'd have a little bit more to stand on. But with how he's doing this year, good luck.

Cardinals are up on the Maddons 3-0 in the bottom of the 7th. Miles Mikolas is rolling again.

Great.  Dominic Leone was brought in with 2 outs in the 8th and something apparently happened while he was warming up on the mound.  He left before he even threw an official pitch, his pitching arm just hanging by his side.  It didn't look good.

Cards won 3-2. That's the third straight game they've won by that score. I wonder what the record is for that? I'm sure somebody, somewhere has kept track; after all this IS baseball.

Watching ESPN and I see Pujols got his 3000th hit last night. Good for him. You're right OBF, he's not nearly the player he was while he was a Cardinal but he gave us 11 years that we may never see again. While he was here he won rookie of the year, 3 MVPs (two back to back) and finished 2nd two other times, one batting title and 3 world championships. His average was around .330 with 40 HR and 110 RBI over that period. Definitely a first ballot HOFer.

Cards pulled another one out of the fire today beating the Maddons 8-6 in 10 innings.

This game could have been a disaster - and it still may be.

First the Cubs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 2 innings.  Then the Cards tied it up.  But after that it became a war of attrition.

STL was already one man short on the roster because of Leone's injury last night; they didn't have time to make a roster move.  But then a "football game" broke out.  Tommy Pham left with a groin injury, Yadier Molina left after a foul tip popped him in the nads and in the top of the 10th Bud Norris, the de facto closer for STL, came out for some unexplained reason.

Yet somehow, after the bullpen let The Maddons take a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the 9th, STL tied it up.  Then a 2-run homer by Kolten Wong in the bottom of the 10th gave STL the 8-6 win.

Now we have to see how serious any of the injuries sustained in this game are.  They already said Leone is going on the DL but we don't know how serious the injuries to Pham, Molina and Norris are.

After losing all those players we HAD to win this game and fortunately we did.

Yes indeed. I often wonder how announcers pull the use and statistics and records. I don't even know how you would look up something like that.

Definitely on the first ballot. If any voter doesn't have him on his/her ballot, that voter is an idiot.

I've been noticing that the Cards at the pulling out a lot of late games lately. I see they are on top of the Central.

I hadn't heard about Pham, but I did hear about Molina having surgery and being out at least a month. So who steps in for him?

The Jays dropped 2 of 3 to the not-very-good Tampa Bay Rays. I've almost come to expect that now when the Jays visit Tampa. For some reason, they have a horrid lifetime record there. Even John Gibbons calls it the "House of Horrors".

Speaking of Gibbons, he got ejected on Sunday for the third time this season.
https://www.mlb.com/video/gibbons-ejected-after-balk/c-2014429383?tid=6479266

I really don't see why that was a balk. Even the announcers had a hard time. I also don't see why Gibbons got tossed so quickly; It looked like he was walking out there pretty calmly.

Speaking of injuries, Diaz hurt himself yesterday. X-rays/MRI showed no damage, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on the DL.

Ouch.  That looks like what my ankles do all the time.  I've broken/sprained both ankles so many times that the ligaments don't really support like they're supposed to.  I can roll my ankle stepping on a pebble.
