The Jays' Saturday and Sunday games were postponed. They will play a doubleheader on May 3.

Today's Cardinal game is in a rain delay.  It's pouring in Cincinnati.

While the Cardinals are in a rain delay I'm watching the Brewers/Mets game.  Syndergaard currently has retired 8 consecutive batters, all on strikeouts.  He needs 2 more to tie Seaver's MLB record.

Once they started playing it was a nice start by Carlos Martinez.

7IP, 2H, 0R, 11K, 4BB and 1 HBP.  He threw 108 pitches.  That's the 17th straight game where Martinez has thrown at least 5 innings.  That's the second longest streak in MLB behind only Madison Bumgarner.

It's 3-0 Cards in the 8th.

The Cards pen tried to blow it but Bud Norris hung on for a 3-2 win and a four game sweep.  Off to Chicago the play the hated Chicago Maddons.

And the next batter singled so no history today.

They might have to shovel off the field. I think pretty much everything in those northern states got canceled yesterday. Minneapolis got almost 12 inches of snow.

Did you see Bartolo Colon took a perfect game into the 8th? He just keeps on ticking.

Oh great… after the last two games of been canceled in Cleveland, the Jays get to go home to their cozy dome. Except ice has been falling off the CN tower and landing on the roof of the dome. The game might be postponed.

The Cardinal game in Wrigley tonight has been postponed and will be made part of a split doubleheader in July.

I guess they learned their lesson after Saturday's fiasco with the Braves.  Even though the Cubs ended up winning both managers said later that they thought the game should never have been played.

They were predicting wind chills for tonight's game to be in the 20s with the chance of snow.  Thank goodness they had enough sense to call the game off.

I saw that.

MLB Central today was making fun of some of the headlines though.  Some referenced "the smell of Colon" but as you can see, if you drop the accent mark over his name the headline takes on a whole new meaning.

They also showed some video highlights of Colon during that game; literally holding his belly and shaking it at players.  He's hilarious!

Our local sports report just blew my mind.

The Cardinals are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Bob Gibson's record-setting season ERA of 1.12 back in 1968.  But in talking about Gibson's accomplishments the Cardinal's rep mentioned that as great as Gibson's career won/loss record is (251-174) he actually has more complete games than wins (255).

He's one of my all-time favorite players and I had no idea.  If that doesn't tell you he's from a different generation of baseball, nothing does.

There's a much higher chance of somebody getting injured in those conditions, and you definitely don't want that.

I got to see him pitch against the Jays last September in Minneapolis. It was "Big Sexy" T-shirt day!

Holy crap! That's astounding.

I've never looked into what rosters were like back then, but they must've had a lot of bench players and very few relievers.

Another amazing Bartolo Colon fact from MLB Central:

Bartolo Colon has faced 5 current MANAGERS as batters.

Here's an interesting bit:

Only once in Dome history has a game been rescheduled due to weather conditions. Incidentally, the last time this happened was a somewhat similar situation in which the Royals came to town in April and two panels crashed together in batting practice resulting in a chunk of metal falling down on the field.

The Royals are obviously bad luck.

The Cardinals are about to take the field in Chicago where the wind chill is in the mid-20s.

I can't even begin to imagine what it will feel like to hit a ball off the bat handle or worse, foul a ball off your foot.

EDIT:  With the Cardinals up 2-1 in the 7th, 21 year old Jordan Hicks is throwing for St. Louis and has already hit 102 (twice),101 and 100 (twice).  Can you imagine trying to hit that with a wind chill of 24?

EDIT2:  DeJong just hit his fifth HR of the year off of one of my "favorite" pitchers, crooked-hat-wearing Pedro Strop.  And now the Cardinals have the bases loaded with 2 out in the 8th and a 3-1 lead.  The Maddons just pulled "Hat Boy".

AND Carpenter just singled to make it 5-1; three runs off Hat Boy.

I'm surprised they play games and temperatures like that. Then again, they play football in miserable conditions. I think you'd need winter gloves instead of batting gloves!

I know you love the "crooked-hat" group. I think Rodney is the most annoying of that group.

The Jays managed to sweep the doubleheader, 11-3 in the first game and 5-4 in the second game. There were pretty much contributions up and down the lineup. Grichuk even got a home run! I think his batting average is in the triple digits now.

Mark Derosa does a segment periodically on MLB Central called "Dr. Dero" where he "diagnoses" and "prescribes" what an ailing hitter needs to do.  He did a segment on Grichuk a couple years ago and it turned out Grichuk was watching because he texted Derosa and said he'd try some of his suggestions.  Well, yesterday "Dr. Dero" paid a house call to Grichuk again.  And last night Grichuk homered.  Coincidence?  Probably.  Today Derosa even said the chances of him having anything to do with it were less than 1%.  But it's still interesting.

Interesting. He did hit a couple balls hard today. One could have been called a hit, but went for an error instead.

The Jays beat the Totals 15-5 today. They've been scoring like it's 2015 this series. It was a pretty relentless attack. Solarte, Hernandez, and Granderson hot homeruns, Granderson's was a grand slam.

They need to figure out what to do with Hernandez once people get back from the DL. He destroyed it last September, this spring training, and in the few games he's been up from AAA so far this season.
