That whole Facebook-only broadcast is an absolutely STUPID idea. I can't remember how many games are like that this year, but there are several. MLB seriously needs to rethink that for next year. I have Facebook and I can watch it, and I might be able to watch it through my MLB TV streaming subscription, but I'd MUCH rather see one of the team's broadcasts.

Here's a video of Sanchez last night. Look at the movement on some of these pitches.

They were showing that on MLB Central.

That changeup is a new pitch for him. At 87 mph, it's only about 8 or 10 mph slower, but has that we could reverse break. I don't know how anyone could hit that.

Well the Cards lost 3-2 but more people are upset about the stupid Facebook-only aspect.  This comment is typical:

Quote :
After jumping through all the hoops to get the Facebook app on my one-year old smart tv, all I got was a screen that kept freezing.. Desktop omputer was ok, but who wants to watch a game on a computer when you have a 70" TV with sound system. Pathetic. Paying for Dish Network

I watched it. I'm used to streaming it, so the quality part was fine. I just didn't care for all the Facebook crap going around and the commentators continually talking about post your favorite this or that. Not to mention stupid emojis flying around the screen.

You can see a screenshot of it here. That was absolutely stupid. I don't mind if Facebook wants to broadcast games, don't make it exclusive.

That's my complaint as well.  If Facebook wants to buy the rights to broadcast games over their platform that's fine but don't make it the ONLY way to see the game.

Do you have any idea how many senior citizens look forward to Cardinal games to get them through their day?  How many of those do you think use Facebook?

This whole concept pisses me off; MLB is ditching long-time older fans to pander to milennials.  I hope the whole idea dies a painful death.

:agree

Why alienate your main fan base just to please a small percentage of millennials? The whole thing is obnoxious. I have an MLB.tv subscription, which supposedly allows me access to "every game", except I had to go through Facebook to watch the Cardinals game the other day!

Cardinal bats woke up yesterday against the pathetic Reds. They hit 5 HR and won 13-4.

Watching the game was funny. There were probably a couple thousand fans in Cincinnati and the Reds pitching was so bad some leather-lunged fan taunted every one of them and you could clearly hear everything he was yelling at them.

MLB Central is dropping some Ohtani facts.

Did you know that at one point this year over two starts he faced 34 batters in a row without giving up a hit? His WHIP is 0.48. He's also hitting .341 with 3 HR and 11 RBI.

Those are some insane statistics! I was a little skeptical about how he would perform, but so far he's lived up to all the hype.

Oh great, Donaldson is on the DL for that "dead shoulder" issue. Hopefully that's a quick stint.

I'm watching the Chicago Maddons losing to the Braves 4-0 in the 7th.  The Braves got 4 runs off Darvish in 6 innings.

Wow, I didn't realize the Cubs only have 3 hits to the Braves 12.  The score could be a lot worse than 4-0.

I've had the game on all afternoon while I was working but I was only half paying attention.

I'm so glad baseball season has started.

It's just so relaxing to have a random game on all afternoon while working.

Just finished watching STL beat the Reds 5-3.  Nice start by Luke Weaver going 7 and allowing 2 runs.  Molina hit his 5th (!) homer.  We're 14 games into the Cardinal season and Molina already has 5 homers; he only had 20 total last year.

Yes, it's great to have baseball again. I've started watching one of the afternoon games while I've been at work. It's been nice.

Is Weaver new? I don't remember him from last year.
Molina is still one of the best catchers out there. How old is he now?

The Jays near the Indians 8-4. They were trailing 4-0 after 2 innings, but Stroman settled down and pitched 3 scoreless after that. The BP was solid again, and the bats did the rest. Diaz hit a 3-run homerun to tie the game in the 5th. He actually leads the team with 4.

I had a feeling Diaz might get rejuvenated in Toronto.  He sort of got a raw deal here.  I think his offense will be OK; it's his defense that gets erratic.  He'll make an eye-popping play then muff an easy grounder.

Luke Weaver got a "cup of coffee" late in 2016, started 2017 in AAA then was brought up about halfway through last year.

Molina turns 36 in July.   And he's signed for another couple of years.  He'll probably retire as one of those rare players who spent his entire MLB career with one team.

What's impressive to me about Molina is that he's made himself into an offensive player.  The first half of his career even Cardinal announcers used to say things like "He's so good at calling a game that anything you get from Yadi offensively is a bonus."  They don't say that anymore.

Wow, I always thought Molina was a complete catcher his whole career. I didn't know he was a defense first guy earlier.

Diaz is supposed to be the backup one Tulowitzki comes back. Honestly, I wish Tulo would stay on the DL all season. He really has slipped the last few years.

Molina wasn't terrible; he was usually good for around .250 or .260 with 10 homers and 50-60 RBI but he certainly wasn't the #5 hitter he is now.

Well the Cardinals are doing what you're supposed to do, beat up on the weaker teams.  They won their 3rd straight over the Reds today 6-1
