I see Shohei Ohtani went 3 for 4 last night with a 3 run homer.

Yep. Here's a video at the top.

He had a pretty rough spring training so I wasn't sure how he'd do. Some writers were suggesting that he might start the season in AAA. He seems to have caught on though.

Did you see that the Yankees fans were booing Stanton in their home opener? He went 0-5 with 5 strikeouts.

Yeah so what did he do today? Hit a 2 run homer his first time up. I watched the Yankees/Rays on MLBN.

Not so surprisingly, no.

The announcers (who were the Yankees guys) even said "That's a way to stop the boos"

I see Ohtani homered again today.

Good for him and good for baseball. I really want him to do well at both pitching and hitting because it's just so unusual. Plus he seems like a good guy; he signed with the Angels this year for millions less than he could have gotten if he'd waited until next year (something to do with how teams can sign international free agents).

Cardinals are up on the Brewers 4-0 again in the 5th, same as last night.

Carlos Martinez looks to be a lot more on target tonight than he was in the season opener. Molina has hit his 3rd HR of the year.

How's this for a stat that Fox Sports 1 just dropped during tonight's Cardinals game.

Since Yadier Molina took over as the Cardinals starting catcher in 2005 the team has drafted 53 catchers who havecombined to catch 15 games. Now obviously that doesn't include backup catchers the team has had from other organizations but I think it's still pretty amazing. The guy just doesn't miss many games.

The announcers said "The good news is you've been drafted. The bad news is that you're a catcher, youwere drafted by the Cardinals and Yadier Molina is in front of you."

Now THIS is the Carlos Martinez the Cardinals expect.

Through 8 innings he's allowed no runs on just 3 hits and struck out 10. And this is the Brewers; it's not like he's facing the Marlins and their AAA team who have made the majors by default.

It's why Martinez is so frustrating. He can have a game like this but also have a game like the opener against the Mets where he couldn't get out of the 4th inning.

EDIT: 6-0 final. Martinez went 8 1/3 innings before an error forced Matheny to bring in the bullpen. Martinez threw 114 pitches. Nice to see a supposed "ace" actually pitch like one.

I think it's great that he can do both. Anything like that that brings more people to baseball is good for the game.

No kidding, talk about discouraging. I imagine many of them went on to play and succeed in other organizations though.

That's a REALLY good start for this time of the season. A lot of pitches too. The Jays haven't had anyone go more than 7 innings.

The Jays lost 4-3 last night. They hit a lot of hard line drives that just seemed to end up in gloves, instead of the gaps like last night. If one or two of those line drives misses a glove, the outcome is different.

Starting pitching was decent, the bullpen was good again, even Oh pitched a strong 7th inning.

I see which you mean about Grichuk. He has done almost nothing offensively this season. A couple times in the last few games, he's had 3-0 counts and then swung at the next pitch. Last night, there were runners on, 0 out, and he had a 3-0 count. The next two pitches were almost in the dirt and he swings at BOTH of them! Then he lets a strike goes right over the middle of the plate. WTH?!

Yep, that's him. No plate discipline. I don't get it because once he gets sent down to the minors then brought back up he stops doing that. So he obviously knows what he's doing wrong but he can't help himself.

I'm sure he'll get in the groove and figure it out, but at least stopped swinging when it's 3-0 and the pitcher is having command issues. I mean the only pitch he didn't swing at was actually the only strike thrown in the at-bat!

Found it! The green ones were called balls. The two red ones out of the strike zone, he swung at. The red one in the strike zone, he let go.

Also note that the pitcher's name is "Bummer"

hahaha..Bummer

I wish he'd be matched up against Madison Bumgarner. You'd have MadBum vs Bummer.

Since he's been with the Jays, I've really noticed Yangeris Solarte's joy when playing. Here's an interesting post about it.

I never even heard of him before. I do like the exuberance but I can see some of his antics rubbing opposing players the wrong way.

He played for one year with the Yankees in 2014, then was that the Padres for the last few years. I don't blame you for not hearing of him; I don't think anyone knows the names of the players on the Padres.

Watching KC vs Cleveland on MLBN. I didn't realize Jon Jay was a Royal now. He sure has bounced around since leaving the Cardinals but he's a pretty good hitter and outfielder so he keeps finding a home.

Did you see this?

MLB Central showed the post-game interview with Paxton and he said something like "What was I gonna do? I knew I couldn't outrun an eagle." So he just stood there and hoped for the best. The punch line is that Paxton is Canadian.

He's just lucky he didn't get scars.

Have you ever seen an eagle's talons? They're huge.

Yeah, no kidding.

The Jays won 8-5 in Texas. Estrada threw a gem for 6 inning, allowing only 1 run. The bullpen came in to try to give the game away, but didn't manage to do it.

Cards beat Greinke and the Dbacks today 5-3. They got to Greinke for 5 runs on 9 hits. They got Syndergaard for 4 runs in 5 innings too so they've handled two of the NL's better pitchers pretty well.

This is how I expect the whole season to be. Win a few, lose a few and end up around .500.

I think it all depends on health. Less injuries means less AAA/AAAA players having to play. That can just kill a team. If the Cards can bea reasonably healthy, I think they'll end up with somewhere between 85 and 90 wins
