Yeah even though the Cards lost 2 out of 3 to the "Trash Birds" I was glad they were able to keep that mind-boggling stat alive.

The Cardinals lost to the Phillies today 5-1.

They looked like a T-ball team; throwing the ball all over the place. But in the end it wouldn't have made any difference. Carlos Martinez went 6 and allowed 2 earned runs so he deserved a better fate but Aaron Nola of the Phillies was masterful giving up only 1 run on 4 hits over 8 innings. And that 1 run was a solo homer in the 8th. Meanwhile Martinez served up two gopher balls so we'd have lost even without the errors and misplays.

The Cardinals just suck. Time to face it. I say SELL at the trading deadline and get some high-end offensive prospects. We have enough pitching for the foreseeable future. And since there's no way in hell anyone from the NL Central is going to the post-season unless they win the division because of the strength of the NL West I say trade some guys and get back some prospects.

That's almost where I am at, except that the Jays are only 2 1/2 games out of a wildcard, and only 5 games out of first in the AL East. Even if they make it, the fact is they are old. They have the oldest team in the majors. They also have some great young talent, but it seems nothing in between young and old. Why not flip a few of the older players to some takers at the deadline?

The White Sox are retiring Mark Buehrle's number. Here is a really good, not too long write up about his influence on the Jays.

You see where Buehle's from? I live in St. Charles County; the city proper is about 5 minutes away. His whole career there were rumors that he'd be joining the Cardinals. Too bad it never happened; he could have been another "mentor" to young pitchers here like Chris Carpenter was.

When he was done in Toronto, I thought he would play one more year in St. Louis.

The O's lost 15-5 last night. Twentieth game in a row they've allowed at least 5 runs, tying the modern MLB record. C'mon O's you can do it...go for the record!

The Jays managed to win 1 of 3 games in KC, but they could easily have won them all. This post came summary perfectly nails Friday night's game. Plus, I find it humorous.

Did you see the Dodgers scored 5 runs on wild pitches yesterday? Same pitcher threw 4 WPs over two innings and allowed 5 runs. When was the last time a team scored 5 runs without swinging the bat?

Switch the name of the team and players and this sounds like a Cardinal recap.

These are my favorite lines from the recap.

This recap is brought to you by the letters D, F, and A.

and

Despite the obvious writing on the wall weeks ago, the Blue Jays not only continued to employ a human gas can in their bullpen, but tonight John Gibbons decided to throw him into the fire during the highest leverage at bat of the entire game.

Cool. The St. Paul Saints come to Winnipeg regularly to play the Winnipeg Goldeyes. They are in the same league.

Not really. They called him though. He said it was the highlight of his professional career. He was talking about being the old guy with the gray beard and the Dad-bod and just hoping to make contact and not pull a muscle.

The cool thing was the league stipulated that Millar could only have 1 at bat so he knew as he walked to the plate that this was his only shot. It's like every kid's dream come true. Like something from The Natural.

Too bad he's not traveling with the team. I'd go see him when he came to town.

Watching the Cardinals play a makeup game against the Reds.

How's this for doing it yourself. Tommy Pham led off with a walk, went to second on a fly ball (he caught the Reds napping), stole third, then scored on a wild pitch.

Looks like Grichuk's demotion to single A ball might be paying dividends.

He was called up yesterday and in his first at bat hit a 478 ft homer to left, longest HR by a Cardinal in Busch Stadium 3 history (since 2006).

Now today in the 5th he just hit another one. This one was a wall-scraper but they count the same. 6-1 Cardinals.

That's a bomb.

Is it just me, or have there been a lot of really long home runs this year, more than usual?

It's not you. They switched the source of "ball-making" to Costa Rica. Al Hrabosky was commenting the other night that the seamstresses in Costa Rica must be a lot stronger because the seams on the ball don't move now. Lots of people think the balls are wound significantly tighter than before thus resulting in longer home runs.

The Jays DFAed Jason Grilli, a.k.a. "the human gas can". I can understand why they took so long; he seems to be a heckuva nice guy. He took it far better than most players do.

https://bluejaysnation.com/2017/06/27/jason-grillis-parting-gifts-for-toronto-thank-yous-and-a-hashtag/

The rest of the Jays were obviously sad because they played like garbage and somehow managed to make the Trash Birds' pitching staff look great. That's hard to do! Seriously, the only run they scored was a solo shot with two outs in the ninth. Whatever they are doing offensively, it's not working. For a team that's built to score, supposedly, they ranked 24th in MLB four runs scored as of yesterday.

Cardinal bullpen coughed up another one last night. 5-2 in the eighth and lost 6-5 in 10.

HAHAHAHAHA!

I love this! The MLB Central guys were talking about this this morning and they speculated the Cubs would cut Montero loose after breaking the unwritten rule of throwing your teammate under the bus. Didn't take long to actually happen:
