Despite blowing a 5-1 lead, the Jays managed to come back and beat the Rangers, 7-6. Estrada was again bad, accounting for all 6 of the runs in 3 2/3 innings. The bullpen wwas great, going the rest of the way without giving up a run.

And in what is usually a weekly occurrence, this week's DL trip belongs to Joe Smith with shoulder inflammation.

Poutine is good; I've tried it before. Those jerseys look like something got regurgitated though.

Quote :
Poutine (/puːˈtiːn/; Quebec French: [put͡sɪn] ( listen)) is a dish, originating from Quebec the predominantly French-speaking province of Canada, made with French fries and cheese curds topped with a light brown gravy.[1] This fast-food dish is typically found across Canada and in some places in the northern United States.[2][3][4] In Canada it is sold in small "greasy spoon" type diners (commonly known as cantines or casse-croûtes in Quebec) and pubs, as well as by roadside chip wagons (commonly known as cabanes à patates, literally "potato shacks") and in hockey arenas.[5] National and international chains such as Smoke's Poutinerie,[6] New York Fries,[7] McDonald's,[8] Wendy's,[9] A&W,[10] KFC,[11] Burger King,[12] Harvey's[13] and Wahlburgers restaurants also sell mass-market poutine in Canada (although not always country-wide)

I'd actually try that.  From the pic on that jersey I thought I might be "tripe".  Or what I grew up with in Pennsylvania Dutch country, "scrapple".  AKA, animal guts.

Cardinals are in Philadelphia tonight and Jedd Gyorko got the scoring started with his 10 homerun.  It's his 10 SOLO homerun this year.  And if you go back to last year it's his 13th solo homerun in a row. In fact, Al Hrabosky said on the Cardinal broadcast that 17 of Gyorko's last 20 homers have been solo shots.  But 13 in a row?  What are the odds of that?

1-1 after 7.

Sea Serpent pitched the 7th and recorded his third scoreless inning in a row.  A month ago ANY scoreless inning from Cecil was an accomplishment.  Maybe he's finally figured it out.

Cards exploded for 7 runs in the 11th and won tonight 8-1.

Looks like the only team we can beat consistently is the Phillies.  We're 4-0 against them this year.  Not saying much since Philadelphia has the worst record in baseball.

I wonder what the record for that is. I think it's time to rearrange the batting order so that someone gets on base.

I'm not sure consistently beating the Phillies is a great accomplishment.

Laughing

Seriously though, we could've used some of those runs.

I'm watching the Cubs and Padres on MLB Network and they just said that today Scherzer carried a no-hitter into the 8th....and LOST 2-1!  Man, that would really suck.

Remember this week's DL participant, Joe Smith? His replacement, Leonel Campos, left the game last night with a strained groin. I think that's the third time this year our injury replacements have got injured and gone on the DL.

And in more awesome injury news, Devon Travis might not be back this season.

Wow.  The Jays just can't buy a break.  No pun intended.

At least Toronto can point to injuries for their record; the Cardinals have no excuse other than that they suck.

That's the weirdest part; Gyorko has been hitting cleanup for most of the season.

They also can't say it's the "old guys" getting injured; it's been everyone from early 20s to mid 30s.

Well since they've flip-flopped Fowler and Carpenter both have been much better.  In fact Fowler now has 13 homers which ties his total from all of last year.  But for some reason when Gyorko comes up with runners on base he doesn't do anything.  Bring him up with 2 outs or leading off an inning and he blasts one.  I think it's as much his fault as the guys in front of him; it seems like he presses more when he's batting with RISP.

Time to send Wacha to the pen and bring up somebody from Memphis to be the #5 starter.

It's the first inning and with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out the Cardinals booted a double play ball to load the bases.  Two batters later and it's 3-0.  With this porous defense, Cardinal starters need to be able to pitch around defensive lapses instead of caving in and allowing runs.

The Cardinal announcers just said that players who visit Philadelphia say the Phillies' clubhouse chef makes the best Philly cheesesteaks in town and that yesterday the Cardinal players ate 40 of them.  40!

I love Philly cheesesteaks; it's the thing I miss most about living in that area.

Can we just play the Phillies for the rest of the season?

Tonight STL was down 5-0 after 4 and 5-1 after 5.  But they started a homerun barrage and ended up winning 7-6 in 10 innings.  And Gyorko's string of solo shots ended as he hit a two-run homer tonight.  And guess who picked up the win?

I didn't know the clubhouses had chefs. And when I first read your post, I thought it said "cheesecakes"! That would've been a lot of cheesecakes before the game.

That's how I feel about the Jays playing the Reds or Twins.

Yay Cecil! He really is a pretty good pitcher.

The Jays beat the 2015/2016 ALDS runners-up, 7-5. Biagini finally got some run support as the Jays scored 6 runs in the first inning. Osuna notched the save to get his 75th career saves and now owns the record for saves before age 24. Stroman goes this afternoon for the series win.

Pierce, who came off the DL last week, slammed his knee into the wall going for a flyball. He stayed in the rest of the inning, but then came out of the game. He better not be going on the DL again. So far, we have sent 19 different players to the DL this year.

I'm watching the Cardinal game. They just said that yesterday around the league the games averaged 19.3 strikeouts per game combined by both teams. That's staggering.

That's a crazy amount of strikeouts. It used to be aware when a pitcher had double-digit strikeouts in a game. Now it's fairly common.

Stroman is getting shelled this afternoon. It's already 6-0 in the third inning. you could almost of guaranteed the Jays were going to lose today because they had a chance to get to the .500 mark. I think it's their 8th or 9th attempt.

They just said on the broadcast that the Trash Birds have now allowed 5 or more runs in 18 straight games. That's the longest stretch in AL history.
