The Jays hit 6 home runs last night and managed to hang on and beat the Rays, 7-6. Talk about an all-or-nothing offense.

Today I watched WWE Monday Night RAW, er, I mean the Yankees vs the Tigers.

Holy crap I've never seen a game like that. Eight ejections, two bench clearing brawls with actual punches thrown and four hit batters.

Anybody crazy enough to take on Aaron Judge?

Hard to tell in those scrums. And apparently I missed one because today MLB Central is saying there were THREE bench-clearing brawls.

And some of the Tigers were actually getting into it with EACH OTHER in their dugout. Crazy game!

Makes you wonder if the Tigers' manager has completely lost his team.

Yeah, Verlander was objecting to one of his guys apparently trying to make peace with some of the Yankees after the second fight in which people were swinging at Verlander. I've never seen such a testosterone-fuelled game.

I'm pretty sure Ausmus will be fired at the end of the season.

They're also talking about something Gary Sanchez did during one of the fights.  Evidently he was whaling on some defensive Tiger player on the ground.  And Sanchez didn't even get ejected.   Can't wait to see what fines and penalties MLB hands down from all this.

They're breaking it down on High Heat. Sanchez twice came out of the dugout and was punching guys A) who were on the ground and B) from behind.

Chris Russo is saying the MLB should adopt the same rules about brawls that the NBA did. Anybody who comes running in from the bullpen or the dugout gets an automatic suspension. That's how the NBA stopped fighting; anybody who comes running in gets suspended.

Similar to the "third man in" in the NHL.

Damn Cardinal bullpen sucks. And Rosenthal is done for the year (and next year). TJ surgery.

The Jays bullpen managed to blow the game again yesterday as well, so I can sympathize.

Pillar made a catch though.

Ho hum. Another Jays game and another great catch by Pillar.

Seriously, that guy is unreal.

A couple of interesting stats I picked up from MLB Network today:

The Royals have been shut out for 45 straight innings (!). Six more and they own a new record.

Aaron Judge was benched by Girardi yesterday. Since the All Star game he's hit .179 and has struck out in 45% of his at-bats (!) He's also only hit 7 homers since. He's gone from hitting .330 to .280. Still a respectable average but those strikeouts....

Watching the Cardinal game and Matt Carpenter just homered.

Yesterday he pledged to donate $10K to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and Wainwright and the Cardinals pledged to match it so that's $30K tonight.

Carpenter and his wife are from the area hardest hit by the hurricane.

The Royals' offense is worse than the Jays!

Judge set the Yankees record for consecutive games with a strikeout as well.

Did you see the one from last week where he crashed into the wall at Wrigley Field?

I've seen a few pictures from the area and it looks unreal.

The Jays used their 14th (!) starting pitcher of the season last night. Brett Anderson went into the 6 innings, giving up only 1 earned (not really) run. Unfortunately Chris Sale was pitching for the Red Sox. He has pitched 22 scoreless innings against the Jays this season. As you would expect, the Jays lost 3-0.

Yeah I saw that. And there's no padding under that ivy.

MLB Central is reporting the Cardinals have traded "Springs A" to the Mariners. No word on what we got back but that's $55M off the books

I think he knew that. He seems to go full out no matter what.

Unless the Cardinals are reading some of the salary. What the Jays have done recently is take on salary in trades in exchange for getting higher prospects back. They did that with the Houston trade last month.

The rumor is the Cardinals are paying $17M of the $55M Leake is still owed. If that's true then I think it's a good deal. That frees up $38M that they can use to try to re-sign Lance Lynn.

Pfffft... a bag of balls.

Some minor league shortstop with a career average of .240.  And we don't even need a shortstop; we already have 3 or 4 guys who can play that position. Paul DeJong was brought up in late May to play shortstop because Aledmys Diaz wasn't hitting and DeJong is hitting .299 with 20 homers and 52 RBI. That's through 78 games played so it's not even half a season. Diaz can see the writing on the wall and is now playing third base in AAA.

Yep!  I'm convinced they're going to let Lance Lynn see what he can get on the open market then see if they can at least match it. With Leake gone and Wainwright just about done, the starting staff is going to be really young and they could use the experience of a guy like Lynn to mentor the younger guys. Lynn himself was in that boat and his mentor was Chris Carpenter. Lynn always talks about how much he learned from Carp.

You certainly do you need one or two veterans and a starting rotation; and the bullpen, for that matter. You always hear about players talking about how someone took them under their wing and mentored them.

MLB Central just had an interesting feature on the sons of Vladamir Guerrero, Craig Biggio and Dante Bischette. Guess what? All three are in the Jays' minor league system.
