Have you ever seen this pic?  Aaron Judge next to Jose Altuve (6'8" next to 5'6")

So I watched WWE Smackdown tonight instead of the All Star Game but before I went to bed I decided to check in to the ASG to see what was going on.

Both Angel Hernandez and Joe West are umpires in this game?  WTF is that??????

I never watch the All Star game; I watched WWE Smackdown tonight.

But I did check in just in time to see Molina hit the game-tying homerun.  And apparently Carlos Martinez threw 2 scoreless innings, the only NL pitcher so far to throw more than 1 inning.  So my Cardinal reps have acquitted themselves exceedingly well in this stupid exhibition game so I'm going to bed.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of this game

Ha ha, that's so funny it almost looks Photoshopped.

I'm not a fan of it either. The Jays' representatives also did well. Justin Smoak had a single and a walk in two at-bats. Osuna pitched a scoreless inning.

Apparently MLB is taking Stroman's comments about the baseballs seriously.

It does doesn't it?  Judge is just a monster though and Altuve has no business hitting as many homers as he does.  How the hell does a body that size pack any pop at all?  Just goes to show you hitting for power is just as much about the mechanics of the swing as it is about sheer strength.

Good.  Because something is definitely going on.  I heard something on MLB Central about the HR rate this year being on pace to break the record set back in the late 80s/early 90s during the height of the "steroid era" so there's definitely something going on that goes beyond the nutrition and strength training of the players.

Thank goodness baseball is back.

I'm watching the Cardinal game against Pittsburgh and the announcers just mentioned that Tampa Bay has put Colby Rasmus on the "deactivated" list at his request.  He said he wants to step away from baseball for at least the rest of the year and by putting him on this list it means no one else can sign him.

As if anyone would.  The guy is such a head case and this is just another example.

Looks like The Sea Serpent may have finally figured it out.

He threw another scoreless inning tonight and that's now 15 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, longest streak in the majors.

I still don't trust him though.  Evil or Very Mad

I'm watching the Yankees at Red Sox.

Frankly I'd like for both teams to destroy each other but with the Yankees trailing 1-0 Matt Holliday, fresh of the DL yesterday, just led off the Yankee half of the 9th with a homerun off your buddy Craig "The Crab" Kimbrel.

I thought it was great.  I'm starting to feel like you about Kimbrel and that stupid crab-pose he does.

Well Sung Hwan Oh has been Sung Hwan Oh-no lately and Cecil hadn't allowed a run in 15 2/3 straight innings so today Matheny brought him in to shut down the 9th with the Cardinals up 3-2.

Well guess how that ended?

Yep, we're back to the Seasick Sea Serpent.  He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and the Cards lost 4-3.

Man our pen sucks!

I wonder what he's up to. I know that a couple years ago something changed and he became a Christian. I know he's not as nutty as he used to be.

Yeah, that just drives me crazy. Anytime he gets hammered, I think it looks good on him.

He has NEVER been good at closing. The Jays tried that with him at the beginning of 2015 and it was a disaster. That's when they threw Osuna, then a 20-year-old rookie, into that position because they had nobody else. The rest is history.

How bad is the Cardinal bullpen?

So bad that Matheny tried the "Cecil as closer" experiment again last night.  In the Mets half of the 8th, Kevin Siegrist (fresh of the DL) struck out the side on 10 pitches so with a 6-3 lead Matheny decided to try him in the 9th too.  But when Siegrist walked the first batter he faced Matheny brought in the Sea Serpent again.  And boy did he make it interesting.  He got one out then walked a batter so the tying run came to the plate in the form of Yoenis Cespides and Cecil promptly went to 3-0.

Fortunately Cespides has zero plate discipline so he went to hacking on the 3-0 pitch and hit a hard grounder to second which became a game-ending double play.  Cecil got his first save since 2015 but I still wouldn't try him in that role again.

Like the Jays, the Cards are going nowhere this season. That's a rarity for the Cards though.

Where has this version of Michael Wacha been this season?

Through 8 innings against the Mets he's allowed 0 runs on only 2 hits with 1 walk and 6 Ks.  He's also driven in a run with a hit.  He's thrown 97 pitches so far and has never thrown a complete game.  They just showed a shot of him face to face with Matheny.

It's 5-0 Cards in the 9th so I say let him come out to start the bottom half.  First batter to reach base and he's gone.

Wacha got it.  Complete game shutout.  He ended the game with a strikeout of Jay Bruce, his 8th, on a 98mph fastball on pitch 119.  Wacha's first complete game of his career and a shutout at that.  He just dominated all night and only allowed the Mets 3 hits.

Like I said, where has this Wacha been all year; or for the past couple years for that matter.  This is how he looked when he came to the big leagues back in 2013.

That's a heck of a game. You don't see too many complete-game shutouts anymore. For that matter, you don't see that many complete games either. And 98 miles an hour on the hundred and 19th pitch of the game is impressive, to say the least.

The Jays lost 5-4 in 15 innings. You really can't blame anyone but the offense on this one. The defense was good, the pitching was good, but the offense just did not take advantage of anything. We really just need a batter or to hit can get a clutch hit now and then. I think I heard that the Jays are tied for 29th the majors for batting with runners in scoring position. That's just not acceptable.

I forgot, there were a couple cool things in the game. J.A. Happ made a good play with a behind the back grab.
http://m.mlb.com/video/v1620748983/torbos-happ-fields-a-comebacker-behind-his-back/?game_pk=491506

Mike Bolsinger struck 4 batters in one inning. One of them was a wild pitch that hit the plate and then ended up on top of the backstop. I don't think I've ever seen strike out on a wild pitch that ended up on the backstop.

The interesting thing about that Happ play is that it looked like he intended to do it.  Most of the time those weird "behind-the-back glove stabs" by pitchers look like a fluke but in this case it looked like he knew what he was doing.

And I've never seen a wild pitch end up on top of the screen before either.

Geez the Jays are bad. Other than a rash of injuries and losing a couple players, even considering one of them was Encarnacion, I'm not sure how the Jays turned into such a lifeless team. They really shouldn't be this bad. They are 8 games under .500. Most nights they just don't seem to have any life in them.

Cecil did it again today. This time Matheny used him in the 8th with a 2-1 lead and the first thing he did was give up a tying homerun.

And the Cards were smoked last night. Leake really sprung one last night. He only lasted 2 innings and gave up 7 runs on 10 hits.

The Jays lost 5-1 yesterday. Sanchez pitched and wasn't really effective, and developed another blister.

Today, Liriano didn't make it out of the 2nd inning. Thankfully, Boston just made an error and now it's tied 3-3 in the top of the 3rd.

And even the runs that they have scored this inning are all thanks to Boston, not the Jays' offense. Aside from the error, Fister has walked 4 batters.

Aren't our teams supposed to be good this year?

And Blowsitall finished the job.

Bottom of the 9th, first and third two outs and the batter hit a grounder between first and second base. Blowsitall didn't cover first so Carpenter had no one to throw to. Game over, Cards lose in the 9th AGAIN 3-2. They've lost 4 games on this road trip so far and 3 of them were in the 9th.

That's just a big mental mistake. That shouldn't happen with experienced players at that level.

Yeah I have no clue what he was thinking.  At least they're spreading the suckiness around.  Three 9th inning losses on the road trip blown by three different guys; Cecil, Oh and Rosenthal.
