I don't think I ever posted this band before.  The band is Love Affair.

The only reason I even know about them is because one of my best friends in college was from Ohio.  He introduced me to a bunch of "local" Ohio bands like Wild Horses, Breathless, Michael Stanley Band (who broke big nationally for a second) and Love Affair.

I bought a copy of Love Affair's debut on CD from the lead singer about a decade ago.  For some reason this song popped into my head today.  It still is one of the most confusing lyrics I've ever heard but I still dig it a lot, probably for nostalgic reasons as much as anything.  This version of the song that was in my head is from a comp CD from radio station WMMS which my Ohio friend used to talk about all the time.

Bought the downloads of Airbourne's Straight Outta Hell and Diamond Cuts - The B Sides this morning and listened to them while running around today.  The music is typical Airbourne but the vocals on SOH seem to be rougher than they used to be on earlier albums.  I found them annoying about 2/3 of the way in.  Or maybe I was just tired of the style because Airbourne is very samey.

That's a really good song. I don't think you've ever posted the band either. At least I don't remember hearing anything by them.

Yes they ARE very samey. So is AC/DC. The thing is, it takes a lot of talent to make the same album with the same style of music over and over again and still be successful. Somehow, AC/DC managed to do that. They have never strayed from their original recipe

Apparently she does it. Bizarre. She does have a nice mellow, sultry voice. I'm not sure how she maintains it doing that growling as well.

Popped in my industrial metal comp today on my run to the grocery store and this one came up.  Might be my favorite Ministry track (although that seems to vary from day to day).  This is one hard-driving song:

I was in the "hoity toity" grocery store over the weekend and this song came on the PA system. It's the second time I heard it while I was there so it must be part of a loop of 80s songs because I hear stuff like "Electric Avenue" all the time when I'm there too.

Anyway this time I paid more attention and made a mental note of some of the lyrics. When I got home I googled it and turns out it's by Slade. I had nothing by that band so since I also like their songs covered by other bands I ordered a used Best Of compilation.

Check out this song and tell me it doesn't get stuck in your head:

That's always been my favorite song by them! I remember when that song came out in the early 80s. Love it.

That video is funny. I haven't listened to Bob in a long time; they sort of lost me with that last album. This one's from when they still wrote with lots of melody.

I had to drive into the IT HQ today for a meeting (about 20 minutes each way).  I popped in the flash drive with my Diamond Dogs/Sulo Best Of comp and these two came up.  I've already posted enough Diamond Dogs songs that you probably know what that band sounds like (even though their albums are fairly all over the place too).  But these two songs show you how versatile he is, punk to ska.  He also has a "country" album out where he collaborates with known country artists like Maria McKee

It's an ongoing battle between who my favorite artist is, Ginger Wildheart or Sulo.

It is quite funny. My question about it is, why is there a video camera in the ladies bathroom? scratch

I don't even remember what their last album was called. I listened to it from their Bandcamp and didn't care for it. My favorites are Superscar and Cocktails.

I actually like some ska. I used to be into bands like No Doubt. And of course I like a lot of punk.

I like a lot of ska/punk bands. Like Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, etc. It's through stuff like that that I've started to appreciate more straight ahead ska and even reggae.

I broke out the Best Of Breathless CD I have after talking about Love Affair the other day.  Breathless was another one of those "Ohio bands" I was introduced to by my friend in college.  The band was actually formed when the guitarist/vocalist for Michael Stanley Band left that band after the Stage Pass album.  This is the song that hooked me back in 1979. The instrumentation sounds a little dated now but you can still hear the knack for sharp songwriting that Jonah Koslen had back in the day.  I'd never seen this video before; pretty funny.

My copy of that Slade greatest hits came today and I'm listening to it.  I'm really surprised how much some of their really early stuff reminds me of Queen.

Like this one.  I can easily imagine Freddie singing it.  Sort of reminds me of "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon"

I may have to investigate this band further because I'm really digging this album.  I remember my best friend in grade school was a huge Slade fan.  He even loaned me some of their albums (on vinyl of course) and I wasn't impressed.  Apparently and not surprisingly my tastes have changed.

And now I'm further in and they still don't sound at all like I expected.  Songs like "Cum On Feel The Noize" are the exception to their sound.  They sound much more like Queen or City Boy - which is a good thing in my book.

Check this one out and tell me you don't hear Freddie Mercury's show tune sound:

It's from 1975 so I'm not sure who copied whom but it sure reminds me of something Queen would have done. It's just "different".

That's just "meh" to me. Nothing grabs me.

Queen and Slade were perhaps an influence on each other. I think Queen became much more bombastic though. I like Slade, but I'm much more familiar overall with Queen's catalog.

Same here. I had no idea Slade sounded like that. I just knew the Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot versions of their songs.

I know you post Ministry now and then, but I'm still not really familiar with their stuff. I know they are one of the big industrial bands, and I think they made an album called "Jesus Ate My Hot Rod", or some funny name like that.

The video was one of those "not available" ones, celeb go track it down on YouTube or Deezer.

I found it on YouTube. It's a pretty heavy song.

I need a change of pace, so what are some of their best albums?

Jesus Built My Hot Rod is off the album which really doesn't have a name but most call it Psalm 69. It's actually something like KEO3H and a bunch of symbols. Look up Psalm 69 and you'll find it. It opens with NWO and Just One Fix. Great album and really heavy.

Toho, I know you don't like these guys, but this one has a bit of a industrial sound to it.

Hmmmm....that's actually not too bad.  And I don't feel like hanging myself which is an improvement over the reaction I usually have to this band.
