That sounds like a cross between Manowar and Sabaton.

That's kind of what I thought. It's actually a pretty good album. It's their only one, as far as I know.

Here's another one.

That one sounds more like a Blind Guardian/Sabaton hybrid. It started out really promising but then sort of just dropped that intro part.

It's OK but I liked the first song better.

This "old chestnut" came up today on what was probably the first flash drive comp of songs I ever recorded; it has lots of random songs on it from around 5-10 years ago.

I still love this song but unfortunately nothing else on the album even came close to this track (WARNING: lyrics NSFW):

I like the name.  I only know what it is because of Horslips "Book Of Invasions" album.

I like that song but I think I've checked these guys out before (because of the name) and they were mostly growling if I remember right.

More than you ever wanted to know:

The Book of Invasions is a twelfth century chronicle of the various pre-Christian colonisations of Ireland. The race who occupied the country before our Gaelic ancestors were the Tuatha De Danann -the Peoples of the Goddess Danann. While their origins are unclear we do know that the Tuatha were a mystical race, handsome and learned, elegantly dressed, expert in every art and science and supreme masters of wizardry.

If you've never heard "Book Of Invasions", I highly recommend it.  Basically most of the songs are centered around classic Celtic traditionals.  The liner notes tell you what originals they adapted for each song as well as the background Celtic myths around which the whole concept album is based.

I'm sure one of your listening sources has the album and if not, Youtube does. Although it probably won't play in Canada. Laughing

I found it on Deezer. I'll give it a listen today.

I don't remember hearing much growling on it. I'll pick out another song or two for you.

You almost need the lyrics and liner notes to understand the concept but the music is still good.

I'm probably the only "hard music" fan on the planet who doesn't really like Iron Maiden.

I just find Bruce Dickinson's vocals to be way too shrill and shriek-y for my tastes. Granted Rob Halford's voice is "similar" but somehow my ears don't find Halford's vocals as annoying as Dickinson's.

I do admire the fact that Bruce can fly his own band's giant 747 jet though. That's just plain cool.

No. You´re not the only one. I have many friends who don´t like Maiden. Laughing

Yeah but they probably just don't like metal in general.

I admit "metal" is not my favorite genre but I do think of myself as a "hard music" fan. Meaning I like heavier music; but I do find I'm not a fan of most "classic" metal bands because of the vocals.

Actually those friends love metal, but Maiden is just not their thing. Understandable.

The older I get, variety grows. I love many of the original bands, imitators not that much.

Today, while making lunch to my kids, I listened some fusion jazz and then changed that to Helloween. I don´t follow that much anymore "genres" but more of music that just sounds great, whatever that might be.

With my wify I listen to Sade, because she hates hard music, with exception of Van Halen. Sade raises up romantics Wink

I like me some Sade.  Something about her voice is very sensual.

I like alto sax music for the same reason; something about the sound. I love some David Sanborn when I'm in the right mood.

I agree Sade has a very nice voice. It's a very smooth, sultry one.

Yuck. Those vocals are terrible.

I like the Pretty Maids song of the same title a lot better:

Good song, but I still like Helloween's song better!

you like those vocals???

Talk about "pitchy"; I'm not even complaining about how squealing they are.  He just isn't hitting the notes

EDIT: I just listened again.  Those may be the worst metal vocals I've ever heard.  Geez that's awful. I think I'd actually prefer growling to that noise. Shocked

Took Squirrel to the vet to get his claws trimmed today.  I popped in my Best Of Diamond Dogs et. al. comp and this one came up.  I don't remember if I ever posted this song by Sulo's apparently now defunct The Crunch or not but I think it's a good tune:

Yeah I know his voice isn't great either but it's punk-ish music so it's supposed to sound like that; metal isn't.  Laughing

That's actually pretty catchy song. And I don't find the vocals bad at all, it's pretty much what you find in punk.

It's been raining most of the day and for some reason when the weather is like this I gravitate toward Sonia Dada.  Maybe because it's more laid back.

I love the vocals of this band.

Exact posted that he'd purchased this album over at HoM. I gave it a listen on YouTube and was hooked.

One of the reviews I read described the sound as Jethro Tull mixed with the lush vocals of Jim Steinman-era Meatloaf and I think that works. It's definitely different; sort of retro but also proggy. It's just plain weird which is I guess why I like it.
