I see the Braves signed Dickey to a one-year deal.

Interesting. The local sports guy is reporting that Cardinal management has told Trevor Rosenthal to "stretch it out" this off season.

Rosenthal has wanted to be a starter his whole career. But STL already has Wainwright, Martinez, Leake, Lynn and Garcia as starters so they're either prepping him to be a long relief guy or getting him ready to fill in for Lynn if the TJ surgery hampers Lynn's effectiveness.

Either way I think it's interesting. This past season, Rosenthal was pretty effective when used as a long relief guy but be was "Blowsitall" when used as a closer.

How darned big is Chicago?!

Here's a little more perspective on that.

I'm watching our local news. The Governor of Missouri reached his term limits this year so he was talking about transitioning to the newly elected governor. He said he's going to make sure that his team ensures the smoothest transition to the new governor possible "FOR THE SAKE OF THE SIX MILLION RESIDENTS OF MISSOURI".

So apparently Missouri has about 6 million residents. The Chicago Cubs had 5 million show up for their World Series parade.

That boggles my mind...

Hot Stove is reporting that Bartolo Colon has signed with the Atlanta Braves. So with the earlier signing of RA Dickey it sounds like the Braves are trying to sign up some mentors for the young pitchers they have. Seems like a smart idea.

The Braves have the two oldest pitchers in the majors!

I'm not sure I like the Morales deal. Three years is too long, he's slow, and is a DH-only player. I sure hope it doesn't prevent them from re-signing Edwin. Pay Edwin already!

Hot Stove just had an item about someone selling an Arizona Fall League ball that Tim Tebow hit into a groundout. Someone has bid $160 for it. For a groundout ball?

PT Barnum sure had it right, there really is a sucker born every minute.

It's really starting to look like Bautista and Encarnacion are both going to depart. That's really going to suck. It would be nice to have at least one of them.

Wow. What if he hurts himself? Suppose he's using a monkey wrench to loosen a corroded pipe fitting and it finally gives and he smashes his hand, breaking it?

If I were the Tigers management I'd put a stop to this.

I would say it's a little concerning for the Tigers. Maybe they have put some restrictions in order.

Quote :
Kate Upton went to bat for her baseball-star fiancé, Justin Verlander, in a hilarious and profane tweet in which she claimed the pitcher was robbed of the American League Cy Young Award.

“Hey @MLB I thought I was the only person allowed to f–k @JustinVerlander ?!” the busty Sports Illustrated model tweeted Wednesday to the official account of Major League Baseball.

Seriously, there were about four candidates you could have chosen from. Each of them would be debated.

Hot Stove is having a blast with the Kate Upton thing. They keep showing fake Upton tweets when they go to a commercial. Kate complaining about Vin Scully getting the Medal of Freedom, Kate complaining about the college football rankings, Kate complaining about the election, etc, etc.

Hot Stove is talking about roster changes being part of the new CBA.

One idea floating around is expanding the regular season roster to 26 and the September callup roster to 28 active players. Teams could still carry 40 players but only 28 can be eligible to play. They're trying to stop stuff like that awful September game that had 18 pitchers. They're also saying teams couldn't change the 28 man roster every day, they might have to stick with the same 28 for a week at a time barring injury.

I love the idea. Young players could still gain experience working out with the big club in September and maybe even get in a game but no more trotting out 10 pitchers.

I'm with you on that. It gets a little crazy during September with pinch hitters and relievers coming out constantly.

It's because all our lefty relievers are out all next season.

You got a good reliever!

Biagini is hilarious. In a strange way, of course.

The early consensus is that we overpaid for him though. 4 years @ 30 million.

But we were desperate. Zach Duke had TJ surgery and Tyler Lyons had knee surgery.

You know the baseball market has changed when a lefty, specialist reliever can pull a $7.5M/year contract.

Cecil is more than a lefty specialist. He can be used that way, but he does well against righties.

Clayton Kershaw and his wife welcomed a new baby boy into the world yesterday. Charley Clayton Kershaw. Charley, get it? As in "after a steady diet of fastballs he threw him old uncle Charlie."

Not baseball but have you seen this?

It's OK to laugh at this poor guy getting obliterated because he's basically OK.
